How to Add a DMARC Record in Porkbun
Step-by-step guide to adding a DMARC TXT record in Porkbun's DNS records panel.
Porkbun has one of the cleanest DNS panels of any registrar, which makes adding a DMARC record fast. This guide walks through the exact steps to add a DMARC TXT record to a domain managed at Porkbun.
Why You Need DMARC
A DMARC record tells receiving mail servers how to handle messages that fail SPF or DKIM checks. Without it, attackers can spoof your domain at will. With it, you block phishing attempts and receive aggregate reports showing every service sending mail on your behalf.
Use the free DMARC checker below to confirm whether your domain already has a record before adding a new one.
Prerequisites
- A Porkbun account with the domain
- SPF and DKIM already set up (recommended)
- A mailbox to receive aggregate reports
Need help building the record itself? dmarccreator.com generates a valid record from a short form.
Step 1: Open DNS Records
- Log in to Porkbun
- Click Account → Domain Management
- Find your domain and click Details
- Click DNS to open the records editor
You will see the current DNS records listed.
Step 2: Add the DMARC TXT Record
- In the Add DNS Record form at the top, set:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | TXT |
| Host | `_dmarc` |
| Answer | `v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:[email protected]` |
| TTL | 600 |
Important notes:
- Enter only
_dmarcin the Host field - No quotes around the value
- Use a real mailbox in the
ruatag
Click Add
Click Add (the button to the right of the form) to publish.
Porkbun propagates fast
DNS changes at Porkbun are usually live in under a minute, so you can verify almost immediately.
Step 3: Verify the Record
Example DMARC Records
Monitoring Only (Start Here)
v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:[email protected]
Quarantine Policy
v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:[email protected]
Reject Policy
v=DMARC1; p=reject; rua=mailto:[email protected]
Editing an Existing Record
- Locate the
_dmarcTXT row in the list - Click Edit
- Update the Answer field
- Click Save
Common Mistakes
Leaving the Host Field Blank
A blank Host creates the record at the apex (yourdomain.com), not _dmarc.yourdomain.com. Always enter _dmarc.
Adding Quotes
Porkbun does not need surrounding double quotes. Enter the value plain.
Multiple DMARC Records
Delete older _dmarc TXT records before adding a new one. Two records cause DMARC to be ignored entirely.
Using Non-Porkbun Nameservers
If your domain uses external nameservers (e.g., Cloudflare), changes made in Porkbun's DNS panel will have no effect.
What To Do After Publishing
p=none only observes. To actually block spoofing:
- Collect reports for 2-4 weeks
- Fix any senders failing SPF or DKIM alignment
- Move to
p=quarantine - Advance to
p=reject
See the DMARC enforcement guide for the full rollout.

Monitor Your DMARC Records
Checking once is good. Monitoring continuously is better. The Email Deliverability Suite watches your SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and MX records daily and alerts you when something breaks.
