How to Add a DMARC Record in Porkbun

Porkbun has one of the cleanest DNS panels of any registrar, which makes adding a DMARC record fast. This guide walks through the exact steps to add a DMARC TXT record to a domain managed at Porkbun.

Why You Need DMARC

A DMARC record tells receiving mail servers how to handle messages that fail SPF or DKIM checks. Without it, attackers can spoof your domain at will. With it, you block phishing attempts and receive aggregate reports showing every service sending mail on your behalf.

Prerequisites

• A Porkbun account with the domain
• SPF and DKIM already set up (recommended)
• A mailbox to receive aggregate reports

Step 1: Open DNS Records

1. Log in to Porkbun
2. Click Account → Domain Management
3. Find your domain and click Details
4. Click DNS to open the records editor

You will see the current DNS records listed.

Step 2: Add the DMARC TXT Record

1. In the Add DNS Record form at the top, set:

Important notes:

• Enter only _dmarc in the Host field
• No quotes around the value
• Use a real mailbox in the rua tag

1. Locate the _dmarc TXT row in the list
2. Click Edit
3. Update the Answer field

Common Mistakes

Leaving the Host Field Blank

A blank Host creates the record at the apex (yourdomain.com), not _dmarc.yourdomain.com. Always enter _dmarc.

Adding Quotes

Porkbun does not need surrounding double quotes. Enter the value plain.

Multiple DMARC Records

Delete older _dmarc TXT records before adding a new one. Two records cause DMARC to be ignored entirely.

Using Non-Porkbun Nameservers

If your domain uses external nameservers (e.g., Cloudflare), changes made in Porkbun's DNS panel will have no effect.

What To Do After Publishing

p=none only observes. To actually block spoofing:

1. Collect reports for 2-4 weeks
2. Fix any senders failing SPF or DKIM alignment
3. Move to p=quarantine
4. Advance to p=reject
