How to Add a DMARC Record in Wix
Step-by-step guide to adding a DMARC TXT record for domains connected to Wix.
If your domain was bought through Wix or is connected via Wix's DNS, you can add a DMARC record directly from the Wix dashboard. This guide walks through every step so your domain is protected from email spoofing.
Why You Need DMARC
Without DMARC, mail servers have no instructions about how to handle email that fails SPF or DKIM, so attackers can impersonate your domain at will. DMARC blocks those messages and provides aggregate reports listing every service sending mail in your name.
Use the DMARC checker further down this page to confirm whether your domain already has a record before adding one.
Prerequisites
- A Wix account with the domain connected
- SPF and DKIM already configured (recommended)
- A mailbox for receiving aggregate reports
dmarccreator.com can build a DMARC record for you if you need help.
Step 1: Open the Domain DNS Settings
- Log in to your Wix account
- Click Domains in the dashboard
- Click the three-dot menu next to your domain
- Choose Manage DNS Records
You will see the list of current DNS records.
Step 2: Add the DMARC TXT Record
- Scroll to the TXT (Text) section
- Click + Add Record
- Fill in the fields
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Host name | `_dmarc` |
| Value | `v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:[email protected]` |
| TTL | 1 Hour |
Important notes:
- Enter only
_dmarcin the Host name field; Wix appends your domain - No quotes around the value
- Use a real mailbox in the
ruatag
Click Save
Click Save to publish the record.
Wix can take time
Wix DNS changes sometimes take 15-60 minutes to appear publicly. If verification fails, wait a bit before troubleshooting.
Step 3: Verify the Record
Example DMARC Records
Monitoring Only (Start Here)
v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:[email protected]
Quarantine Policy
v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:[email protected]
Reject Policy
v=DMARC1; p=reject; rua=mailto:[email protected]
Editing an Existing Record
- Find the
_dmarcrow in the TXT section - Click Edit
- Update the value
- Click Save
Common Mistakes
Using a Connected (Pointing) Domain
If your domain is "connected" to Wix using nameserver pointing only and DNS lives elsewhere, the Wix DNS panel may not be authoritative. Manage DNS at the actual provider.
Entering the Full Domain Name
Only _dmarc belongs in the Host name field. Wix automatically appends your domain.
Multiple DMARC Records
Two _dmarc records cause DMARC to be ignored. Delete duplicates.
Wrong rua Format
The rua value must start with mailto:. A bare email address is not valid.
What To Do After Publishing
p=none only observes. To actually block spoofing:
- Collect reports for 2-4 weeks
- Fix any legitimate senders failing SPF or DKIM alignment
- Move to
p=quarantine - Advance to
p=reject
The DMARC enforcement guide covers the full rollout.
Complete Checklist
- [ ] Opened Wix DNS records
- [ ] Added a TXT record with host name
_dmarc - [ ] Used a valid
mailto:rua address - [ ] Saved the record
- [ ] Verified with the DMARC checker
Monitor Your DMARC Records
Checking once is good. Monitoring continuously is better. The Email Deliverability Suite watches your SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and MX records daily and alerts you when something breaks.
